BRENHAM

My name is Sylvia.  I am a novice at photography.  I was introduced to photography by my fiancé, Tiger Moses in November of 2002.  Tiger is my  photography mentor in what I feel is somewhat of a complex hobby for a beginner.    Lucky for me, Tiger has years of experience.  He is a Lover of this hobby.

Tiger came up with a great idea for the both of us to share in the beginning of the new year 2003.   Tiger thought we would begin a photography project whereby we would take a trip to an interesting city or town in Texas at least once or twice a month to take a variety of photographs.  Our project goal is to fill every letter of the alphabet with a name of a city or town in Texas that we visit together.

Our first adventure was to Brenham on Sunday, January 5th, 2003.   We live in Magnolia, so Brenham was quite close to home.  The weather was clear, good temperature, it was great.  The sky was gorgeous and we put our polarizers  to good use.

Tiger attended Blinn College 20 years ago and therefore was familiar with the town.  I loved this small town.  It was my first visit there.    There was lots of  colorful  and interesting building facets downtown and we took several pictures there as well as at the college.  As a photographer, I see and appreciate the buildings, windows and doors, streets, railroad tracks, firehouses, etc. so much more.   I owe it all to Tiger Moses.     Although, I was a little disappointed to find that most of the businesses are closed on Sundays.    We would have liked to have seen what the inside of some of the businesses looked like.  Some we just looked through the windows.  Tiger took an interesting shot through a window.  Oh yeah, no shopping.  Our purpose there was to take photographs not to shop, anyway and so that forced me to concentrate on taking pictures all the more.

We also took pictures from the road and from the interior of the Starlight Drive-in who according to the owner, ceased operation in  1984.  Tiger asked the woman who owns the property if she would allow us in to take some pictures.  Lucky for us she was nice, friendly and amenable to the idea.  The owner of the Starlight now has an antique business on the property, we encourage you to stop in and shop.  That was the only place we shopped in Brenham.   Both Tiger and I feel the Starlight was the highlight of our visit to Brenham.  Who knows how much longer that drive-in screen will be standing.  Tiger used to go to the drive-in movies there while attending college, so for him there was a memorable connection.
